Through their Eyes - Oregon Road Trip Part II

I'm back with Part II of our road trip through Oregon (see Part I here)

Oregon Central Coast

We left Crater Lake NP and headed west toward the coast. We made many stops to take in the beauty of the area.

The Oregon Coast was exactly the way that I expected, a little chilly, overcast, with a melancholic feel to it. But so, so beautiful.

We stopped at Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area on the Siuslaw National Forest. We walked from the Spouting Horn to Thor's Well to the tide pools. We also checked out the Devil's Churn (The names! So funny)
All the treasures we discovered in the tide pools... Just so beautiful

We also stopped by Strawberry Hills at Neptune State Park. More awesome tide pools to explore and baby seals!!!

We spent hours looking in these tide pools... They were awesome!

Continuing on to Yaquina Head Lighthouse part of the National Forest System

The rangers at this place were so helpful. They taught us about the diversity of the area. We even spotted a whale (not pictured). We stayed there for a long time... We had a hard time leaving the tide pools, playful seals and the freaking whale that kept coming back and giving us a show... So incredible
Last stop for the day on our way to Lincoln City. Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area (does this picture remind you of Portugal's Algarve region? I thought so).

Continuing on to Oregon Northern Coast. We got up early the next morning, got ourselves a good breakfast and off we went to continue our adventure. The day started like the day before (a little chilly and overcast) but it soon turned sunny and warm... Check these pictures out

The Three Cape Loop

First stop was Cape Kiwanda. We walked by the dory launch site and hiked the dunes all the way to the top for spectacular views. The kids ran down on the dunes. It was so much fun.
View of the "other" haystack rock

Next stop, Cape Lookout. We decided to do a hike here. The hike took us through the forest. We saw sweeping views of the ocean

Next stop, Cape Meares

We visited the beautiful light house
We also visited the Octopus Tree (largest Sitka spruce in the state and an Oregon Heritage Tree)

We said goodbye to the Oregon Coast and headed toward Portland where Mark's cousins were waiting for us for dinner. We stayed up late talking and catching up. We got up early the next day to start our adventures in Portland.

We walked around their wonderful neighborhood. Stopped for coffee, picked up delicious old fashioned doughnuts and just simply took in the scene - Alberta Street

I want to live in this America!

We went for a hike in Forest Park to check out the Red Woods

We hung out at Washington Park's beautiful Rose Garden

We attended a concert in the park... More talking and more fun times with the cousins

We perused little treasures, yummy food and drinks at the Portland Saturday Market - This place is a blast!

V embraces everything feminist... She learned about Planned Parenthood and visited a super cool feminist store... I think she is in love with Portland

More fun for the kids and the grown ups at Powell's Books

Portland is full of quirkiness everywhere

Smallest park (Mill End Park)

For more quirkiness, check my instagram feed.... I just couldn't contain myself

Last time we saw our cousins was in 2011... What? Can you believe how fast time flies? It was nice to see you guys!

Many thanks to our cousins for taking time from their busy days to show us around! The kiddos got along great (always a plus) it was a great way to end our time in Oregon. I can't wait to see them when they come to visit us here in the ATL (note to self, get on your A game... We need to reciprocate, big time)

This is all folks... I wish we would have had another week, or two, to explore more of what Oregon has to offer... There is so much more to see. So excited to go back and see more.

Check out what we did last year, for Forth of July, here
