Through their Eyes - Lisbon

More fun in Portugal... Here are pictures from, what I think, is the most underrated city in Europe: Lisbon. What a town. Lovely little streets, gorgeous architecture and the vistas... Magnificent. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself:

Visiting the enchanting town of Sintra - First stop: The Moorish Castle... Again, the vistas from here, just stunning

And the gorgeous Pena Palace

Walking and getting lost in the little streets of Barrio Alto, and Chiado all the way to the waterfront

Taking stops for refreshments... Checking out the soccer scores because, we were in Ronaldo's country!!!
Grand Placa do Comercio

Visiting Castelo de Sao Jorge - Incredible views from the top

This little girl of mine... She is not so little anymore...

Walking the charming streets of Alfama

Being transfixed by an impromptu performance of Fado in Alfama - We all concluded that we could have spent the whole afternoon listening to those guys... What a treat! This, I think, is an experience that cannot be missed when visiting Lisbon.

Did I mention we were in Lisbon during the "Festa de Alfama"? Everywhere we walked about, the streets were beautifully decorated

Spending the afternoon in Belem, taking a leisurely walk from the Monument of the Discoveries to the Tower of Belem. Also stopping for an afternoon pick me up of coffee (us) Sumol (for the kiddos) and, you guessed it, pasteis de nata at the famous Pasteis de Belem... This friends, you have to have... So yummy!

Taking the cable cars to get around in the city... The 3 Euro going up to Barrio Alto was so worth it after a day of walking around hilly Lisbon - Our home base in Lisbon was Barrio Alto

Taking in the view of panoramic Lisbon for the different view points - Our favorites:

Portas do Sol
Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara (just down the street for our Airbnb Apartment)
And to close up our vacay... Here is a little bit of our time in Istanbul
We met up with this crew for (yet again) another fabulous dinner (see picture from the last time we met up with them in Istanbul here)

Always so nice to hang out with these guys... Thank you so much for being so nice and taking time from your busy day to hang out with this family of crazy wanderlusters...

We also got to take in a little bit of the city...

Getting an ice cream cone in Turkey is such a treat... See more about Dondurma here

We packed a lot actually, we walked all the way from Taksim Square to the old town. We took breaks for tea and pomegranate juice, people watched (this is always a treat), had LOTS of snacks, the husband got a shave, the kids got some ice cream, we ate {more} awesome food and I even did a little bit of shopping (I got myself a mini Kilim...) It was a lovely day all around. I love it there. I can't wait to go back again, and again and again...

Through their Eyes - The Algarve

Back again for another edition of Through their Eyes where I documents my kids (and mine, as it seems) favorite activities when visiting a new town/country.

We went to Portugal. Portugal has been on my wish list for a long, long time... We scored great tickets thanks to Turkish Airlines who recently starting offering really reasonably priced flights from Atlanta. Plus, we got to spend a little time in Istanbul... Which I'll share with you later. But now, let me share some pictures from our time in the Portugal's Algarve. We, once again, lucked out with the weather. Our time there was relaxing, really fantastic, here without further ado, are our pictures from the Algarve:

Walking around sleepy Salema

Spending the day in gorgeous Tavira - We had one of our best meals in this little town. It goes without saying... Portuguese food is Amazing!!!

Being awestruck by the beauty of the beaches surrounded by dramatic cliffs. At Praia Camilo and Ponte da Piedade

Taking in the view of the gorgeous landscape by boat - We explored many caves, really cool caves
We squeezed our boat through this opening... Really cool
Cave of love... (almost all the caves have names. So gorgeous)

Pinch me... We spent the afternoon in this gorgeous cave. The famous Benagil Cave. Check that off from the bucket list. So gorgeous in there

The little man had a blast exploring it...

Taking in the view from land. Hiking from Praia Marinha to Praia de Benagil - Taking a break at every beach we could, some of them, accessible by entering really dark/really dark caves. A cool adventure for sure

Checking out the landscape from a different perspective

Beach bumming in Praia Luz - We needed a break from hiking and boating, this seemed like a reasonable spot
Hunting for crabs and barnacles...
Early morning walks from our home base in the Algarve - Lagos

On our way to Lisbon, we stopped in the region of Alentejo for the day...

Enjoying the day in the Roman town of Evora

We left those two here while we went to check the wine store - Next time we'll have the wine there instead of taking it with us.

Visiting the archeological site of Cromeleque dos Almendres - Totally unexpected. It reminded me of Avebury and Castlerigg in England.

I hope you liked the pictures... There are more from Lisbon and a little bit of Istanbul too on the next post
