Though their eyes - Mexico's Highland Part II

As promised, here are the pictures from Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende (see Michoacan and Jalisco here). They are both UNESCO world heritage sites and for good reasons. These towns are stunning... So beautiful and colonial. We did not want to leave. Here are some of our favorite activities in case you find yourself visiting Guanajuato and/or San Miguel de Allende.

Getting lost in the little streets - the best way to explore these colonial towns, Guanajuato

And San Miguel de Allende

Taking breaks to cool off on the many plazas

Taking the funicular to the Monumento de El Pipila... The view of Guanajuato from up there is simply amazing!

Visiting the markets and eating more of the delicious street foods...

Visiting gorgeous Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera - A mid day break from busy Guanajuato

Visiting the public library, San Miguel de Allende
Enjoying the streets performances... So.Much.Fun

This is it for our trip to Mexico's highlands... Ah, I can't wait to go back and explore some more. In the mean time... I am day dreaming of our next adventure... Did you hear? We're going to Cataluna, Basque Country and the Dordogne valley in France... What fun awaits for us there... I will be reporting back so, don't miss out that post later this Summer.

Though their eyes - Mexico's Highland Part I

Hello there! We are back (have been, for couple of weeks, actually) from Spring Break in beautiful Mexico. As our other times there (as documented here and here) we had a blast. Lovely place to go and so close to us here in the US, there is really no excuse not to go. Here, without further ado, our pictures from our time in Michoacan and Jalisco.

Strolling the majestic plazas... So many...

Plaza de Guadalajara and Catedral de Guadalajara
Plaza de la Constitucion
Plaza de los Mariachis - This place was super fun

Visiting the Palacios de Gobierno and admiring the murals... My god... The murals by Orozco were stunning. It reminded me of the murals by Rivera in Mexico City (see pictures here)

Congreso de Guadalajara

Visiting utterly fascinating Instituto Cultutal de Cabanas... More murals by Orozco

Spending the afternoon souvenir shopping the gorgeous and totally pedestrian Tlaquepaque

Afternoon treats... Ice cream in interesting flavors like avocado, yum! Since we were in Tequila country I could not resist trying tequila ice cream... So refreshing

A game of Marco Polo in Tlaquepaque rotunda - Tlaquepaque's main square

Eating the food. Ah friends, need I say more? We always go for the street type... So much better.

Visisting grand haciendas and learning all about the cultivation of the Agave plant and the making of Tequila - Tequila trail, Jalisco

What did you think? Gorgeous, right? But wait, there are more pictures. Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende are coming up.
