Starting our Saturday with a 4 mile hike and ending it with steaks and loaded potatoes with like-minded friends, now that is what I call a good day.

Have a great week everybody

Through their eyes - Guatemala Part II

Back with more pictures from Guatemala, this time from the Highlands, most specifically, Lago Atitlan. Here, without further ado, are the kids' favorites from Lake Atitlan:

Home basing in Panajachel - Perfect place for exploring lake Atitlan

Hiking on Atitlan Nature Reserve - Panajachel

Taking a boat tour around the towns of lake Atitlan

Visiting: Santa Cruz de la Laguna - With all kinds of beautiful and friendly faces

San Juan de la Laguna - with a great market

San Marcos de la Laguna - Learning all about harvesting coffee and making textiles all the organic and old fashioned way... Really amazing

Santiago Atitlan

Meeting Maximon... Just because, we gotta. You should have seen the kids faces... Just too funny... Mami, what is this again?

Bargain hunting in Chichicastenango

Market day at Solola

Trying all the ways of transportation: chicken buses, boats and tuc-tucs(being the favorite of all)

All the markets reminded me of Turkey. See what other places Guatemala reminded of here.

Through their eyes - Guatemala Part I

Guatemala, beautiful and friendly Guatemala, what a surprise you were. We loved our time there and are hungry for more... so much more. Here is a look through my kids eyes of their favorites activities from our visit to Peten and Antigua. Atitlan Riviera's coming up next.

Exploring the largest Mayan ruins in the Americas: Tikal.

Apart from the amazing ruins, the wildlife was abundant... It did not hurt that our guide, Enrique, made the best spider monkey calls.

Spider monkeys
Wild turkeys
The elusive white tail dear (also known as jaguar's snack)
We also saw Toucans, falcons and heard - oh, did we hear - very loud howler monkeys.

Visiting utterly gorgeous Yaxha. We could not understand how such a magnificent place was so empty... it was all to ourselves...

The kids took property of their very own pyramids, because... They could

Of course, more wildlife

Baby foxes

Taking a dip on Lake Peten Itza... Because you cannot be by the second largest lake in Guatemala and not take a dip... So beautiful and a great way to interact with the locals. Also, a great way to end a day of pyramid exploring - El Remate

Staying in Hotel Ecologico Finca Ixobel - Poptun. Picture this: No TV, no ipad, no computers... Can I tell you how much fun this was for the kids? They played ping pong, kicked the soccer ball, bird watched, hammock swang, kitty and doggie petted and at night... Bat watched... It's the simple things friends
The food: granizados, fresh juices, the tortillas... I can go on and on. Everything Chapin was amazing
Watching the World Cup while the only country in Central America is representing... So.Much.Fun... Full stop.
Walking around gorgeous Antigua, I mean... Dang

You liked it, didn't you? But wait, I have more... We also visited the highlands so I have another post with more pictures.

I could not help looking at these pictures to be reminded of the wildlife in Costa Rica (also here) and all the Mayan ruins reminded me of Yucatan...  We loved it all. I encourage you to go visit. You won't be disappointed.
