More dress pockets

Ok, one more dress... I know, I am getting carried away here. Can't help myself!

Before:

After:

Tip: Do buy a fabric of a contrasting color (I like the little color surprise). Do not buy color coordinated thread as you really don't need it. If you have thread in a color that is close enough, use it. Don't buy a new one.

Happy sewing!

Oatmeal cookies

Ok friends, do you remember this recipe for oatmeal cookies? Well, I found one even better. It makes a large batch so I froze some of the dough to be enjoyed later (I talked about freezing dough here). And I made some substitutions: I replaced the raisins with chocolate chips... YUM!

A little tip for you: take one of the frozen logs and let it thaw slightly then cut into diagonal 1/4 inch slices and bake. It is the perfect crunchy and chewy cookie to be paired with a dessert like this.

Ingredients:
2 sticks of room temperature butter
1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup of flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup of raisins
3/4 cup of chopped walnuts

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Beat butter and sugars until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla - beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon - mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and oats - mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoons on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool one minute on cookie sheet - remove to wire rack.
Cool completely and store tightly covered.

Au revoir, for now

We'll be on vacation so the postings will be sparse. I have scheduled a few posts for when we are away, so check back. I will be back in 3 weeks with plenty of pictures and postings to share....

For a dose of Paris check out these pictures I rummaged through for inspiration for our trip.

I am writing this as we are almost out the door on our way to the airport. We are very excited (almost giddy) for all the fun awaiting us (It never gets old friends! NEVER... Despite the fact that this is our 5th time to France).

See you all soon!

A bad dream - Confessions from an obsessive packer

Do you want to know what wakes me up at night, in a cold sweat? A dream about having to go on a trip and not being packed properly, seriously... It is my biggest fear. All of you who know me know that I have a little addiction to the "to do" list and I love planning, packing and preparing for a trip almost as much as going on the actual trip. And if I do say so myself, I have some pretty awesome packing skills... (On our last trip to Europe we managed to go on a nine-day trip with 2 kids without checking a single piece of luggage). Pretty hard core, I know!

Want a glimpse of my day bag?

My camera bag (body, 3 lenses. remote control, portable tripod, point and shoot, charger and lots of memory cards) copies of pages of my guide books, separated by destination (I have a rough schedule of places to see) once I have been to the destination I trash the pages.

In my backpack I pack 4 tops and 4 bottoms of dark colors (that I can mix and match) and accessories such as scarves, tank tops/cardigan (for layering) socks and leggings. Some winter gear (for the Alps) like a jacket and gloves... You get the picture.

Are you planning your own trip and want some ideas as to how to pack like a fashionista? check out this post.

Kikki K

Couple of months ago my sister send me the most fabulous loot from down under. She told me about this store some time ago and I tell you from what I received...I am in love!...the goodies are so cute.
Check out the meal planners (can you say appropriate? does my sister knows me or what?)

Anything you need for organizing you can find there (hello?...Are you calling me by name?) and all other everyday goodness you can imagine...Too bad you are not here in the US. I am sure it will be the going-to place for all my office and stationery necessities. If you happen to be in Australia check them out. I know I will next time I'm am there.

PS, Other fabulous store from down under that you CAN find here in the US is: Pumpkin Patch...just adorable children fashion and you are able to find really good deals there!

Strawberry jam

So you know how we went to the strawberry farm last weekend? So, here are some of the things I did with the strawberries we picked: we ate some fresh, I froze some (for smoothies and such) I made strawberry butter and I made some jam to eat with bread for breakfast. It was so easy and delicious.

Check out the recipe I used for the jam if you want to give it a try...But remember, strawberry season will be over in Georgia in June... So hurry up if you too want to make some of these delicious strawberry goodies.

Also, if you are interested in buying and eating fruits and vegetables in season go here for a complete list.

Pictures for the weekend - Picnic in the park

OK, so I got some new shoes for our trip to France. You know, the type that will look oh so French (despite the fact that I already own a couple of great walking shoes). Well, we decided to pack up the family and go to Piedmont Park for a picnic and some walking (to break in the aforementioned shoes). To complement the purpose of the outing we brought a French inspired lunch of bread, 2 types of crackers, strawberry jam, 3 different types of French cheeses, pears, caramelized walnuts, ham, some fruit juice and for dessert, fruit tartlets. The kids played and rode their bikes, we sat down and enjoyed ourselves...Such a wonderful day here in the ATL. Here are some pictures from that day:
Some more playing around:

And a visit to the market going on at Piedmont Park:

Wildflower field

I just discovered a field of wildflowers by our house. We have been living in our house for 5 years and I never noticed it... I am glad I did, though. It was so much fun to see the kiddies run in the wildflowers.

A day in the life - through the view finder

A little project I wanted to complete before the school year is over. Inspired by this post...

Although a difficult project to pull off I am glad I did it. Just a little glympse into our everyday life. Little things we tend to forget.
